I’m really not good at these news pieces, but every now and then something comes up that makes me write regardless.
For those who don’t know Colter Wall, he hails from Swift Current (surrounded by Saskatchewan) and is currently signed to Thirty Tigers (the people supporting acts like Aaron Watson, Blackberry Smoke, Cody Jinks, Whiskey Myers…etc). He released his debut EP, Imaginary Appalachia in 2015, an album that still finds regular rotation from me.
Vocally, you can definitely hear the similarities to Johnny Cash in terms of the deeper, huskier tone, and that’s something that he used to his advantage on his debut EP, one of the darkest albums I’ve heard in a long time.
Anyway, I’ve been waiting for new music from this guy for a LONG time, and today, we finally got some news about it. Colter is set to release his debut full-length album (self-titled), alongside producer Dave Cobb on May 12th. Yeah, that got your attention didn’t it? Personally, in terms of style I think these two would (and do) go extremely good together. I honestly can’t wait for this release.
For now, you can pre-order the album beginning this Friday (March 10th) on iTunes as well as hear a new song, “Thirteen Silver Dollars” at Rolling Stone.
